Blyth and Burrows

Vintage-inspired cocktail bar & upscale small plates

Commander Samuel Blyth and Lt. William Burrows

"The captain of HMS Boxer, Commander Samuel Blyth, was killed early in the action by a cannonball; had he lived he might have defended his ship more desperately, but it is not probable with more success. It was his fate now to receive like courtesy at the hands of his enemy. His remains, in company with those of the brave Lieutenant William Burrows, were brought to Portland, where they were interred with military honours in Eastern Cemetery. It was a striking and affecting sight, to behold two gallant commanders, who had lately been arrayed in deadly hostility against each other, descending into one quiet grave, there to mingle their dust peacefully together."

Really nice speakeasy with delicious, fun cocktails and friendly staff!
Had a champagne cocktail & this chilled octopus dish with long beans. Very Spanish, very tasty. Came here to connect with a friend and although the bar was a bit rowdy, we were able to hear each other through it all. Highly recommend this place.
This place was dope as you can already tell! Very laid back, classy vibe inside. Food was good, and a great drink list. You must stop in when you’re in Portland. You will not be disappointed.
Come for the cocktails and stay for the snacks! Excellent place for a pre- or post- dinner cocktail. We planned to grab drinks before a dinner reservation at Miyake. We were intrigued by the menu so we ended up ordering the deviled eggs and the charred oysters. So glad we did, both were very good and had a nice twist to traditional preparation. We had 2 cocktails each, trying different options, and thought all 4 cocktails were fabulous. Can't go wrong!
We visited Blyth and Burrows during our recent trip to Portland as it came highly recommended from a friend. We parked around the corner in the parking garage and walked over. The neighborhood is very lively and eclectic with lots of unique shops and eateries. When we arrived we observed how small and crowded it was. This definitely spoke to it's popularity! After a short wait we were seated along the front window. This was a great seat to enjoy the atmosphere, even if it was a bit of a tight squeeze with the other patrons. We ordered the Frieda Fuzzypaws and the Ship Captain Crew. Both drinks were very enjoyable! We loved our visit and would return in the future.
They not only had my favorite beer on tap, but the cocktail menu was robust. My pals, they loved the cocktails.
Just amazing cocktails. Blew my mind.
Large selection of unique cocktails made with inhouse sodas. Grab a seat outside and enjoy the sounds of Portland.
Top cocktail bar in Portland
This little spot came highly recommended to use as cocktail lovers from Chicago. The staff here is good, the cocktails are great and the food is a nice variety. We had a muscles preparation with toast bites that made us ask if it was in house conserva or purchased (if it was purchased we needed to know where to get some) and to our glee, it's made in house, outstanding. The drinks here are creative and well balanced. Space is limited so bring your best friend and pull up to the bar for a pleasant evening with banger flavors.
Unique and creative cocktails. Loved the taste and presentation of the Ship Crew Captain
